Rebuilding a landmark barracks building as the Saxony State Broadcasting Center for Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, MDR
MDR’s 300,000-square-meter property is located north of Dresden’s historic town center. It is part of a military complex established in the last century, and the old three-story barracks earmarked for renovation are a historical landmark. The television studio and cafeteria areas, along with auxiliary rooms that could not fit into the old building because of the ceiling heights and acoustic requirements, were combined into a new building.

On the southwest side, the cafeteria opens onto the terrace, an expanse of water and a park through a large glass façade. The old barracks building houses office and editing areas as well as studios and production facilities.
